Artificial reefs are used around the world as a means of gaining scientific information and preserving marine habitats.

This August several have been immersed in the breakwater of the Port Hercule, although the full extent of the project is as yet, unknown. For now they will remain submerged in Port Hercule, but, in the coming weeks they will be gradually transferred to the Larvotto marine reserve.

"This is a very innovative and revolutionary project, which has much interest in the marine environment", says Philippe Mondielli, Scientific Director of the Prince Albert II Foundation, project partner. "All partners have chosen not to communicate by bit but to unveil the project in its entirety, on October 19".

The official ceremony, or unveiling of the project, should occur on the 20th October when Prince Albert II himself will discuss it during the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Monegasque Association for Nature Conservation.
