Buddha Bar's chef crowned vice champion at the World Sushi Awards 2018
Wagner Spadacio, head sushi chef at the Buddha Bar in Monte-Carlo, got the second place at the World Sushi Championships in Tokyo last August, only behind Malaysian master Tai Koon Siang.
Born in Brazil, Wagner Spadacio's professional calling probably stems from his home country's special relationship with Japan as host to the largest Japanese expat community in the world. When he was only 14 years old, he moved to France and, after working at the prestigious Nobu Restaurant in Monaco, he moved onto the exclusive Buddha Bar in Monte-Carlo.
Spadacio presented his raw fish masterpieces on a 45 million old petrified wood slab, wowing the Japanese jury. This isn't his first award, as he was crowned French Sushi Champion in 2017, as well as winning the French Sushi Open in 2016.
