Since Liberty Media took over the running of Formula One racing from Bernie Eccleston earlier this year, there has been much discussion and speculation over the format of racing and the possibilities for change.

Amongst those most vocal for change has been Monaco resident and three-time Formula One World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. Earlier this month, after speed testing for Mercedes in Barcelona, Hamilton said, "You can't keep doing the same format at Monaco because you can't overtake there. So maybe they need to spice it up and do something different – maybe a sprint race."

As we prepare for the F1 season to begin the discussions will no doubt continue, but for now, the whisperings that Monaco may change are sure to create a stir between those who enjoy the iconic race in its current format and those who are hankering after change.

Ross Brawn, recently appointed as managing director of F1 by new owners Liberty Media, has suggested that F1 could stage a non-championship race to experiment with new formats. For now, however, it is likely that the format will change for 2017 Monaco edition due to take place on 26th to 28th May.
