Monaco Laureus Sports Awards 2018

The Oscars of the sports world celebrated their awards gala in Monaco yesterday

The big winner of the night was tennis player Roger Federer who took home the Sportsman of the Year award and the Comeback of the Year prize. 2017's Sportswoman of the year was Serena Williams.

Other athletes honoured last night included golfer Sergio Garcia who won the Breakthrough of the Year, Marcel Hug who was chosen as the Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability and footballer Francesco Totti who got the Laureus Academy Exceptional Achievement award. The Chapecoense Football Club received the Best Sporting Moment Award for their response after their plane crashed in 2016, losing most of their team members.

Celebrated at the Salle des Etoiles, a stunning hall that hosts other big Monte-Carlo events such as the Rose Ball, the ceremony was presented by English actor Benedict Cumberbatch who walked the red carpet with his wife, Sophie Hunter. Also in attendance were a whole host of celebrities including singer Emeli Sande who performed at the ceremony, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco and, of course, many famous sportsmen and women. These included footballers Ryan Giggs, Luis Figo, Radamel Falcao, Raul, Carles Puyol and Alessandro del Piero or tennis players Boris Becker and Martina Navratilova,
