World number one, Andy Murray, is now out of the 2017 Monte-Carlo Masters tournament after a shock defeat in the third round to Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Recovering from an elbow injury and with a lack of competitive matches in recent months, the number one tennis player Andy Murray was beaten by Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas 2-6 6-2 7-5. The number 15 seed showed some stunning class that resulted in him claiming the biggest victory of his career and taking him through to the quarter-finals. Ramos-Vinolas will face Croatian Marin Čilić, the number 5 seed.

Defending champion and world number four, Rafael Nadal, had a speedy victory in round 16 over teenager Alexander Zverev, beating him 6-1 6-1 in one hour and eight minutes. The Spaniard, aiming for his 50th clay title, will face Argentina's Diego Schwartzman today (Friday) in the quarter-finals.

Monaco local, Novak Djokovic beat Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 6-2 4-6 6-4 in order to move through to the quarter-finals and a match against Belgium's David Goffin.

The fourth quarter-final to take place today will see Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas take on the only French player left in the tournament, Lucas Pouille. Cuevas beat Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-4 in round 16, making swift work of the world number three and 2015 French Open champion.
