The Riviera Water Bike Challenge is the first relay race of its kind on water and will take place on June 4th 2017 under the patronage of Princess Charlene of Monaco and in support of her foundation.

The Princess, a former Olympic swimmer, will be taking part in the event herself along with other relay teams that will include two sporting personalities as well as two amateurs. The 21km between Nice and Monaco will be travelled on Schiller S1 water bikes.

The teams will be composed at a gala dinner, on 24th March, under the High Patronage of Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene, at the Monaco Yacht Club, where guests will have the opportunity to bid for a place on a specific team. The guests will also have the opportunity to bid for a range of unique items and be entertained by artists including a visiting South African choir, international DJ and top billing live band.

The Princess has admitted that getting time to train for the event has been tricky. Her twins, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, are now two years old and on the go the whole time. However, when she gets a chance to break away, during nap time and daycare, the Princess loves to be in or near the water and has been training for the inaugural Riviera Water Bike Challenge

The funds raised at the gala dinner and by the First Edition of the “Riviera Water Bike Challenge” will help finance the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation’s project in Burkina Faso. An aquatic rescue centre which will train lifeguards and swim instructors will be created in conjunction with a Water Safety programme to raise awareness about the risks related to water.
