Monaco's social event of the year, the Rose Ball, took place on Saturday at the prestigious Salle des Etoiles in the Monte-Carlo Sporting Club. Bringing together the Principality's jet-set as well as may international socialites and celebrities, this glamorous party was created by Princess Grace in 1954 to raise funds for the foundation that has her name.

The Rose Ball is considered the start of the party season and this year the chosen theme was Manhattan. Karl Lagerfeld, head designer at Chanel, was in charge of turning the ballroom in Monte-Carlo into a glitzy version of the Big Apple.

Prince Albert, the head of the royal family, was sadly not in attendance as he is currently travelling in Colombia but his absence was filled by the likes of Princess Caroline, who arrived accompanied by Lagerfeld himself. Her son, Pierre Casiraghi and wife Beatrice who is reportedly pregnant with the couple's second child, were also part of the VIP crowd.

Charlotte Casiraghi's date was Dimitri Rassam, a French film producer, son of actress Carole Bouquet and her brand-new fiance as evidenced by the large rock on her finger. Their wedding is set to take place this summer in Sicily. Alessandra of Hanover, daughter of Caroline and Ernst of Hanover, also attended with boyfriend Ben Sylvester
