The Cote d'Azur turns white with snow

It's been snowing in Monaco this Monday

The French Riviera woke up to a white blanket of snow on Monday. The snow limit dropped during the day to sea level, turning even the Cote d'Azur beaches into a winter wonderland.

Even if the snow didn't last long in areas such as the coast, the views of the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and its palm trees covered in the white, fluffy stuff was pretty unusual, as was seeing snow on the Croisette in Cannes or at the Vieux Port in Saint-Raphael (check out the video below).

This snowfall has been brought in by a Siberian cold front that is just passing through France. Temperatures will plummet even further today and an orange alert for snow and ice has been issued for the whole of the French Riviera. The mercury will probably drop to between -1ºC and -11ºC in the area in the morning, with highs of 4ºC in the afternoon.

In the meantime, enjoy the rare sight of snow in the Riviera!
