The Minister of Social Affairs, Health and Women's Rights, Marisol Touraine, announced yesterday that the recent heatwave in the first week of July, had caused 7% more deaths compared to the average observed in the same period of the year - this equates to 700 deaths.

Temperatures are forecast to reach between 34 and 37 degrees in some places across both the Alpes-Maritimes and Var regions, with the possibility of thunderstorms to break the incredible heat. Residents are as always being warned to stay safe during this time and the official advice is to keep cool, drink water regularly, take showers, close curtains and shutters during the day and air the house in the cool morning.

In addition, the recommendations are to drink 3 litres of water per day for adults, avoid alcohol and stay out of the sun as much as possible.
