The Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters title 2016 is up for grabs
In a shock defeat, the world No. 55, Jiri Vesely, has knocked defending champion, and favourite Novak Djokovic out of the 2016 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters in Monaco in round two.
This is his first exit at the second round stage of a Masters tournament since 2012. Vesely's pleasure was clear yesterday after the match as he posted this message on Instagram - "64 26 64!!!!!!! I am just sooooooooo happy, I have no words... Like a dream!! The best day of my life !!!!! thanks for all the support and wishes!!!". He produced the performance of his career to win and take his first victory over a top-10 player in nine attempts.
Djokovic was, as always, upbeat and gracious about his loss. “Nobody’s unbeatable,” Novak said. “I was playing really, really bad. Bad footwork. But I have to congratulate my opponent.
“He played very solid. He was serving very big. He was playing tactically good and aggressive. When he was break up in the third set, he was playing bravely. He was coming in, dropshots, big serves. He was going for it. He deserved to have it.”
Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal will all continue to the third round today. Games started at 11:00am and will continue throughout the day.
