Later this week the 1998 & 1999 Formula One World Champion, Mika Häkkinen, will join a group of cyclists as they complete a 200-mile ride from Tuscany to his hometown of Monaco to raise funds for a children’s charity.

After announcing his retirement from competitive motorsport in 2007 he has concentrated on staying healthy; “I have been cycling since I was a young boy,” explained Mika, “but since I finished my active career I have also started to appreciate the social aspect of it as well…these events such as Tuscany to Monaco push me to practice a bit more!

He now joins the likes of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button who can often be found cycling when they are not racing to maintain their fitness levels; and, like Button, Mika also has a philanthropic motive behind his love of cycling and is passionate about supporting worthy causes.

Personal fitness, or actually personal wellbeing is very important,” said Häkkinen. “For me this goes well beyond fitness…I was privileged to meet John Caudwell and his vision and passion for philanthropy truly inspired me. I’m very proud to support his great charity.

The Tuscany to Monaco cycle ride takes place on 22nd to 24th September 2017. Tickets are available to join Mika Häkkinen, fellow riders and guests at their celebration Ocean Gala Dinner on the evening of 24th September at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, in Monaco.
