Jardin Japonais (Japanese Gardens), Monaco

Designed by architect Yasuo Beppu, the Japanese gardens opened in 1994

featured in Sights & sites

Fulfilling Princess Grace of Monaco's desire to have a Japanese garden in Monaco, this spectacular space is enjoyed by thousands of people each year.

Today, visitors come to the garden to meditate in serene surroundings, which include a waterfall, Zen garden, pond and tea house.

A great escape from the busy roads and streets of Monaco, this is a beautiful park covering 7000 m2. A stylised copy of nature, it features a waterfall, small mountain, a beach and several ponds, all within a zen concept. All the wood for the tea house and covered terrace was assembled in Japan and then transported to Monaco, as well as the stone lanterns.

Visitor comments

  • "We came across these gardens when we had a brief stay in Monte Carlo, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so relaxing, and peaceful that time just drifted away. There are viewing areas to use and these are also also suitable for taking photos as well. Well worth a visit, and it's free." - Trip Advisor
