"The biggest hammer of the year in Monaco," said auctioneer Franck Baille. The Matisse painting from 1938 reached a fantastic 4.2 million Euros.

The painting entitled "Deux femmes dans la verdure avec un chien" (Two women between plants with a dog) was owned by the family of Henry Louis Mermod, who acquired the work after it was painted by Henri Matisse.

On Tuesday evening at the Auction house in Monaco, it was purchased by a businessman, residing in France, who outbid a Swiss gallery.
