Sad news today as Sir Roger Moore's family reveals his passing after a short battle with cancer.

Best known for his role as the British 00 agent with a licence to kill, James Bond, Sir Roger Moore has had a glittering career on the silver screen. Having played the roguish secret agent in no fewer than seven Bond films, Moore finally stepped down in 1985, playing James bond one last time in A View to a Kill, at the age of 58.

A statement was posted this afternoon (Tuesday 23rd May 2017) on social networks by his children, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian, saying that at aged 89, Moore has passed away in Switzerland after a "short but brave battle with cancer."

Having made a home for himself, along with his wife Kristina Tholstrup, in the illustrious Monte-Carlo, Moore has been a popular and humble resident of Monaco for many years. His philanthropic work was noted by his children to be considered his greatest achievement. He was a UNICEF ambassador and so vocal about speaking out against the production of foie gras that the department store Selfridges actually agreed to remove it from their shelves.

Their statement released today says, "We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for Unicef, which he considered to be his greatest achievement."

A private funeral will be hosted in Monaco. Our thoughts go out to his family at this time.
