With various rumours circulating about the sale of the stunning St Jean Cap Ferrat villa, it looks as though the Villa les Cidres is set to become the most expensive residential property deal ever.

Built in 1830, the villa was formerly the holiday home of the Belgian King Leopold II. It sold in 1924 to Alexandre Marnier Lapostolle, owner of the Grand Marnier liquor brand. It was then acquired earlier this year by Davide Campari-Milano when the Italian spirits company bought Grand Marnier.

The lavish property not only comes with incredible sea views but also has ten bedrooms, a hall, a winter garden, a stable and a concierge. It also features a 50-metre swimming pool and a private botanical park of some 14 hectares with no less than 25 greenhouses and dozens of extremely rare tropical species.

The villa is being sold along with Grand Marnier's two wine businesses in France and Chile. Campari Chief Executive Officer Bob Kunze-Concewitz said  “We’re not used to dealing with such assets. We just sell bottles; we don’t spend our time in the Riviera in multimillion-euro villas. Many people who are in the real estate industry see it (the villa) above 300 million euros".

If current rumours are to be believed then the property is actually valued at one billion euros. Surpassing the Chateau Louis XIV, a mansion outside Paris that was sold for a record 275 million euros in December 2015.
