Monaco Mission Control for Solar Impulse 5 Day Flight
Pilot André Borschberg attempts 120 hour flight, only on solar power
Attempting to reach Hawaii from Japan using only clean technologies the Solar Impulse craft is already one day and sixteen hours into it's journey.
Never before accomplished in the world of aviation the solr powered flight is expected to take 120 hours and will be particularly demanding.
"Solar Impulse intends to achieve the First Round-The-World Solar Flight in 2015, after 12 years of research, tests and development. No fuel, but only solar energy and technologies of the future, to prove that pioneering spirit and innovation can really change the world."
The round the world trip has been broken up into 12 flights and the Japan to Hawaii is the 8th leg of this mammoth undertaking.
The entire journey will be watched and carefully monitored the entire time by the team of 60 people at mission control here in Monaco. You can watch the live transmission from mission control on their website - here.
