Operation 'Velo Rouge' Comes to Monaco
First edition of the campaign to raise awareness for blood donation
Between the 2nd and 4th of July the Velo Rouge will visit the towns of Tourrette, Monaco, Nice, Villeneuve-Loubet and Antibes in order to encourage people to give blood.
For three days, an electric bike will have to travel through the towns and it will need your donations of blood and your pledges to give, to allow the bicycle to advance on to its next destination. 10 000 donations are needed daily to cover the needs of patients.
This concept was created by Colibri Works, a communications agency committed to the initiative of Riviera blood donation. Its president Delphine Giordano decided to dedicate six months of her time to mount this ambitious project.
The campaign has now gained the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco, the State Minister for Social Affairs of Monaco Stéphane Valerie, former Minister for European Affairs and Deputy-Mayor of Antibes Jean Leonetti, the deputy Mayor Lionel Luca, the mayor and vice president of the General Council Dr Alain Frere, the Professor Cassuto of Nice University Hospital, the blood transfusion centre of the Hospital Princess Grace and many many other public figures and organisations.
The Velo Rouge operation aims to raise public awareness of blood donation, especially during these summer months when donations decrease dramatically but of course the need for blood does not alter.
So look out for a red bike passing through town over the course of this week and if you can, then please do go to your local blood donation centre and give what you can to help the lives of others.
2nd July - Tourrettes, 3rd July - Monaco and then Nice, 4th July - Villeneuve-Loubet and Antibes.
