Sir Roger Moore, one of Monaco's most distinguished residents has written an open letter to British Prime Minister Theresa May, urging her to come good on the Conservative party's promise to ban animals in British circuses.

In a very eloquent letter that was tinged with humour and references to his role as the British secret service agent, 007, Sir Roger Moore has asked Theresa May to "put an end to such barbarous cruelty to wild animals".

Referencing his past career as James Bond Sir Roger says: “Wild animals in real life must feel as if they’ve been captured by the fictional Dr No. When they’re not being forced to perform confusing tricks under threat of the whip they’re chained up or tied down."

One of the main objectors to Sir Roger's plea has come in the form of Thomas Chipperfield who comes from a circus family that has trained animals for some 300 years. Chipperfield wants to tour later this year in the UK with his lions and tigers. “My uncle John Chipperfield played his stunt double in 007 Octopussy in the tiger scene and they were my Uncle Dickie’s tigers. The film also featured circus elephants. He had no issue with circus animals then.”

Some thirty years have passed since the filming of Octopussy and Sir Roger proves that a leopard can change its spots, as he has come to realise that the treatment of wild animals in such a way is no longer acceptable.

Sir Roger Moore finishes his letter with this paragraph, "Madam Prime Minister, it’s time – past time – to do the right thing and finally bring in a ban on this outdated form of so-called “entertainment”. I will put a bottle of Dom Pérignon ‘52 or Bollinger ‘69 on ice for the occasion and gladly pop the cork with you." Showing that there's still a touch of Bond... James Bond.
