It's not hard to see why the cosmopolitan seaside principality of Monaco is popular with photographers, with the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, the sleek superyachts in the marinas and the narrow cobbled lanes of the old town.

According to the website 'sightsmap' the city of Monte-Carlo, the playground of the rich and famous, ranks 7th in the world for the most photographed cities and towns. With the neighbouring city of Nice just behind Monte-Carlo in second position and the equally glamorous yachting destination of Saint Tropez in third, the entire region offers the discerning photographer a multitude of artistic offerings.

One of the most beautiful buildings in Monte-Carlo, the infamous Hotel de Paris comes out on top and the most photographed spot in town. Situated right next to the Casino de Monte-Carlo in a square where the background music is the sound of supercar engines, the hotel de Paris is certainly the most elegant and exclusive hotel in the centre of Monaco.

Unsurprisingly the Prince's Palace of Monaco comes a close second on the list of most photographed places in Monaco. The grand palace of the Prince of Monaco was built in 1215 by the Genoese and has been transformed into one of the most luxurious residences in the world. Situated on top of the Rocher de Monaco (the rock of Monaco) the views over the harbour and rest of the city are stunning.

Rounding off the top three, the Saint Nicholas Cathedral is popular, not only for being one of Monaco's most important religious buildings but also for hosting the wedding of Rainier III and Grace Kelly which took place on April 19th 1956 before 600 guests, including Cary Grant, Aristotle Onassis, Ava Gardner and Gloria Swanson.
