Stars turn out for the 56th Festival de Television de Monte-Carlo
An annual festival hosted not long after neighbouring Cannes Film Festival, the Festival de Television de Monte-Carlo celebrated the stars of the slightly smaller screen - the TV.
2016 sees the 56th Festival de Television de Monte-Carlo being hosted in the small but glamorous principality of Monaco. Created in 1961 by Prince Rainier III it has, for over half a century, followed the trends of the small screen and anticipated the game-changing programmes of the sector. A unique competition takes place and takes into account TV programs from around the world in the categories of fiction and documentary to win a Golden Nymph at the closing ceremony.
In the running this year for Best TV Comedy series are Better Call Saul (USA), Catastrohphe (UK), Maniac (Norway) and Plan B (Israel). For the Best TV Drama series we have Code Black (USA), Poldark (UK) and Trapped (Iceland). There are plenty of other fiction programmes in these and more categories and a whole host of documentaries and new programmes int he non-fiction section.
Shows such as these undoubtedly bring with them the big names in television. Already the Red Carpet and opening ceremony saw many stars of French and foreign TV with many more set to follow in upcoming photo-calls and screenings. The closing ceremony and announcement of the Nymphe d'Or prizes will bring many more to Monte-Carlo so keep you eyes peeled over the next few days for some of your favourites to appear.
