1. Cime de Baudon

A moderate hike to the summit of Cime de Baudon 1264m where you are welcomed with magnificent views of the crashing blue waves of the Mediterranean to the south and the snow capped mountains to the north.

The village of Peille is notable for its narrow streets, small squares and architecture dating back to the medieval period. The small commune, perched high on a rock at 650m, lies between Monaco and Menton and overlooks the River Peillon.

2. Cap d'Ail Trail

Location
Monaco

Enjoy the sea breeze as you walk this relatively flat route from just outside Monaco along the coast to Cap Mala and back to the parking at Plage Marquet.

A great walk for any time of year. This trail follows well maintained coastal paths and takes in many impressive coastal mansions including the Eden Palace, and the secret Mala beach. This walk can get very windy as it is exposed and if there is a large swell you may get a little wet as the waves crash against the rocky shoreline.

3. Chateau de Roquebrune

The historical town of Roccabruna fell under control of the Grimaldi family of Monaco for five centuries during which time the castle was strengthened. It still stands today and is a must see on this short walk.

In 1793 the town of Roccabruna became part of France for the first time changing its name to Roquebrune. With the completion of the coast road by Napoleon in 1804, Roquebrune became connected with the rest of the Cote d'Azur. Along this walk are many impressive buildings including the Chapel Pausa, built in the 15th century to ward off the plague that ravaged the coastline, along with the Coco Chanel property that was occupied by Sir Winston Churchill at the end of his life.

4. Nietzsche walk

Location
Eze

Fredrick Nitzsche walked up from Eze Bord-de-Mer to Eze Village and this apparently helped him write the third part of Thus Spake Zarathusa. This steep trail is not very far but it involves many steps to get to the top of Eze Village.

5. Sentier Littoral walk near the Monaco Border

Location
Monaco

One of the most varied of the Sentier Littoral routes, this starts at Plage Marquet right on the Monaco border and heads west to finish at Plage Mala going via volcanic rocks, blooming Mediterranean flowers, Belle Epoque villas and three fantastic beaches.

Eze to Mont Bastide Hike walking

6. Hiking from Eze to Mont Bastide

Location
Eze

Climbing up high above the coastline from the medieval village of Eze, this short but challenging hike takes you from beach to mountains and back again.

The town of Eze has been populated for over 4000 years and has been described as an 'eagle's nest' because of its location overlooking a high cliff 427m above sea level. Its high altitude means that it's church, the Notre Dame de l'Assomption built in 1764, can be seen from afar.

Tete de Chien Hike from Cap d’Ail

7. Tour de la Tete de Chien

The town of Cap d’Ail is dominated by the white limestone cliffs that loom up behind it; this walk takes you up to the summit in a circuit that looks out over both sea and mountains.

8. Chateau de Sainte-Agnes

Perched high up on the rocks above Menton this lovely village offers great views and classic mediterranean architecture.

The village of Sainte-Agnes used to protect the Franco-Italian border on the Maginot line and was a coveted military site for many years. Today however, the village rewards visitors seeking authenticity with narrow paved streets and its unobstructed view of the coastline near Menton.

9. Circuit Forna, La Turbie

Taking in the two peaks of La Forna (621m) and La Simboula (675m) this walk leads you through the fire scarred landscape with great views overlooking the coastline.

The area is rich with history and with views of the snow capped mountains to the north this is a great walk for clear days, where you can see for miles around.

Mont Gros stands at 686m and towers above Menton and Monaco. It is a popular venue for paragliding.

Le Corbusier walk

11. Le Corbusier walk

Cap Martin is a rather exclusive peninsula between Monaco and Menton, which houses a number of large, discrete villas of the rich and famous. Happily, there is also a rather fabulous coastal walk around the headland which allows everyone to access the wonderful views of Monaco and the sea.

The path, also known as Sentier des Douaniers, is very well maintained and allows the public small glimpses of the Belle Epoque villas and 'holiday cottages'. It is possible to follow the coastline all the way from Menton to Monaco - it's about seven miles - or you can just enjoy a stroll around the Cap, starting in Carnoles and ending in Roquebrune Cap Martin - a leisurely two hour walk. Train stations at either end make this walk very accessible for those staying in Nice, Monaco or Menton

12. Mont Macaron, Contes

The airy ridge of Mont Macaron (806m) tapers towards the south and opens up the bare countryside that reflects the heavy price the area paid due to the fire that destroyed much of the scrub in 1986.

Perched 750m high up on a strategic hill lie the ruins of Chateauneuf. Abandoned in the 18th century the ruins have been maintained by the local community to ensure their survival throughout the years.

13. Circuit Bon Voyage

A scenic walk along the coast leading to a small chapel dating back to the late 1800's.

Monaco

A walk through the hills above Monaco to the mighty Augustus Monument built in La Turbine.

Augustus was the founder and first Emperor of the Roman Empire. The Monument in La Turbine was built to celebrate his victory over the Lugurian tribes of the area. From the village of La Turbine you are rewarded with some of the best views of Monaco that can be found in the whole Riviera.
